Oreno, wich takes its name from the river that crosses the estate and the hamiet where the farmhouse is found, is the estate’s flagship wine. Fruit of the blend of Merlot structure and Cabernet Sauvignon class, brought together with the elegance of Petit Verdot, it expresses best the potential of the territory and the Moretti Cuseri family’s idea of wine.

This deep ruby-red wine has powerful, complex aromas of dried plums and balsamic (anise, fennel, mint) traces. Quite dry (not sweet) on the palate, soft and with bright acidity, the wine shows flavors of baked cherry, chocolate and cinnamon. Structured but noble, delicate tannins precede a long finish.

Lime blossom, acacia, white peach, apple, lemon and mineral flavors penetrate this lithe, elegant white. Harmonious now, but should develop nicely.

A Chardonnay of exceptional allure beckons with an immediate embrace of nectarine, Meyer lemon, and a delicate wisp of jasmine. The palate unfolds a delightful symphony of flavors, with concentrated green apple and luscious stone fruit taking center stage, while notes of honey and the caress of toasted vanilla add layers of complexity, like a finely woven tapestry of flavors. This wine culminates in a soft, creamy, and luxuriously lush finish that leaves an indelible mark on the discerning palate.

Coming all from the estate Monte Bello Vineyard, offers a medium gold hue as well rocking notes of caramelized apples, white flowers, honeysuckle, and crushed rocks. These all carry to a medium-bodied Chardonnay with bright acidity, a focused, chiseled texture, terrific minerality, and just a kiss of background oak. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and have two decades of longevity, if not longer.

Every story about Hanzell starts with the fact that founder, James Zellerbach, planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir after a trip to Burgundy in 1952. Yes, ‘52. Long before California Chard and Pinot were a thing, let alone the coolest thing.

That history is amazing, but it’s not why We're so crazy about these wines today. Today, the story is Jason Jardine, the Wayne Gretzky of cool-climate Cali wines. Jason was a prodigy (planted his first vineyard at 18), worked with Randall Grahm, helped establish Flowers (the pathbreaking cool-climate Pinot domaine), and planted the vineyards at Rhys (making Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot into the latest greatest thing).

Jason took over at Hanzell in 2014 and worked with the family to turn the clock back — not to the 1950s, but to the days before the industrial revolution. Jason is a proponent of a style of farming, “integrated farming practices,” which he believes are better for the wine, the land and planet. No chemical inputs at all (no fertilizers, no herbicides). Instead, they grow cover crops between the rows and let animals graze them. Voila: natural fertilizer!

Hanzell doesn't even plow between the rows. Apparently it’s a great way to fight global warming. Tilling tears and kills all the plants you turn up, releasing their carbon back into the atmosphere. No-till farming lets the soil, one of the world’s best carbon capture devices, work its planet-cooling magic.

The Giovanni Rosso cantina (winery) is located in the hamlet of Baudana, just a couple of kilometres north of Serralunga d’Alba village. A traditional family cascina, or farmhouse, it houses the fermentation, ageing, bottling and labeling facilities as well as the offices. Not simply a Barolo producer, but a “Serralunga producer”: Giovanni Rosso has around a dozen different plots within the commune in addition to the newly acquired Valle del Mondo vineyard just south of the communal boundary in Roddino. These vineyard plots include some of the most historically important areas such as La Serra, Broglio, Damiano and Vigna Rionda (each of which is mentioned in a document dated 30th May 1694) as well as Cerretta and Sorano. Giovanni Rosso owns the iconic Vignarionda cru, parcel no. 251P of map Foglio no. 8 of the commune of Serralunga d’Alba, which has been legendary for years and is today considered the “Romanee- Conti of Barolo.” In terms of viticulture, they farm as organically as possible, using no artificial chemical treatments such as fertilizers, insecticides or weed-killers. Harvesting is 100% manual, as is pruning and tilling of the soil beneath the vines. Green harvesting is carried out as necessary and they allow plant growth between the rows of vines to encourage soil health and diversity in the vineyards.

The nose is very elegant, showing complex tertiary notes of dark cocoa, ripe raspberry, plum and peppery hints. The sip is extremely polished, rich, well-structured and well balanced with smooth tannins and a long, flavorful finish.

The most respected Pinot Noir wines from Gevrey-Chambertin are robust and powerful but at the same time, velvety and expressive: black fruit, black liquorice and chocolate come into play. After some time in the bottle, the wines are harmonious with bright and sometimes candied fruit, and aromas of musk, truffle and forest floor. These have staying power.

  Mark Porembski first became interested in wine years ago while studying poetry and discovering that some restaurants in Boston’s North End were not perfectly strict about the legal drinking age. He moved to California in 2000 to pursue his interest in wine, eventually taking on the position as Winemaker at Anomaly Vineyards. Mark founded Zeitgeist Cellars, a wine label in collaboration with his wife, Jennifer Williams, in 2005. With experience that includes dozens of wineries in Napa and a stint in Hawkes Bay New Zealand, Mark brings conscientious selection and a commitment to simple and thoughtful creation.

Silver Eagle Vineyard rests atop Stoetz Ridge, the land mass that divides the remote Sonoma Coast from the Russian River Valley. Estate grown Avni 2019 PN is focused and concentrated with an overlying elegance and silky mouthfeel. The large proportion of complexlyflavored, savory and mineral upper block fruit combines seamlessly with the rounder flavors of

Pommard clone on Jory soils. Though the vineyard was still recovering from drought, the fruit quality was nearly perfect, as temperatures were moderate at harvest, and we avoided the later rains.
