  • The Sancerre region is synonymous with some of the world's best Sauvignon Blancs, but did you know that they make red and rose too? Historically Sauvignon Blanc only became the dominant grape there after the devastating phylloxera pest of the late 19th century, and before then Pinot Noir and Gamay were much more important. Pinot Noir still accounts for a small amount of Sancerre production, producing some of the best roses we've ever tasted. Small, family-run winery Pierre Prieur et Fils makes this rich rose of Pinot Noir from grapes grown in flint/silex and chalk soils, which contribute ripeness, minerality, and aromatics to the wine. Red berry and rose petal aromas lead into bright flavors of raspberry, cherry, strawberry, and stone fruits on the palate. It is medium-plus bodied, with high acidity and a long, refreshing finish.
