Domaine de Beaurenard

2022

Presentation

Symbol of the Domaine de Beaurenard, this wine is the great blended cuvée, reflecting the diversity and complementarity of our soils and grape varieties.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage is in line with the beautiful sunny vintages of 2017 and 2019. The numerous and generous rains of autumn 2021 were essential. They made it possible to replenish good water reserves. The winter was quite dry. A strong mistral marked the first days of April, thus avoiding a new wave of frost. It set the tone for what was going to be a dry and relatively mild spring (less than 50mm between March and May). The summer was marked by a great drought accompanied by high temperatures, but never extreme, especially thanks to cool nights. Taking advantage of deep roots, structured soils and plant cover that limited evapotranspiration of the soil, the vines continued their cycle gently to allow the grapes to reach their just ripeness.
The season in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was also marked by three stormy episodes laden with hail (5 and 24 June, then 14 August) which crossed certain sectors of the appellation, causing moderate damage on the west faces of some of our plots.
Particularly threatening at the dawn of the harvest, the hail of August 14 and its brutal damage, fortunately very localized, was immediately minimized by a saving mistral that rose the next day. This made it possible to keep the grapes healthy, without the development of rot and to start a process of healing the woods crucial for the next vintage.
With hindsight, we realize that our vineyard management (plant infusions, high planting density, direction of planting, absence of trimming, plant cover, etc.) was once again a real asset in achieving the right maturity of the grapes, the purest expression of our terroirs. The harvest took place from 26 August to 6 October in fine conditions.

Soil

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is characterized by its diversity of soils.
A mosaic of planted plots, on limestone soils, roller pebbles, on a background of clay more or less loaded with iron, and safres (fine sands).

In the vineyard

Manual harvesting, sorting of the harvest in the vineyards.

Assembly

Blending of the 13 grape varieties of the appellation

Winemaking

Co-fermentation, long vatting allowing a delicate extraction.

Breeding

Ageing for 12 months (truncated conical vats, foudres, barrels).
