This Puligny-Montrachet reveals a nice yellow color with green glints. On the nose it reveals floral notes and almond paste. On the palate, it is opulent, aromas of vanilla with a mentholated and iodized touch. Beautiful freshness on the finish!
Far Niente Winery is located in Oakville, an area famous for Napa Valley Cabernet, and home to our estate Martin Stelling Vineyard from which we’ve been producing our Cabernets since 1982. The abundant 2012 vintage is approachable, even in its youth, with bold, ripe, fruit and mouth-filling tannins typical of the Far Niente house style. After several cool and challenging growing seasons, the weather in 2012 was nearly perfect. March brought heavy spring rains, sustaining the vines through the season. Temperatures were ideal for budbreak, flowering and fruit set, and the summer months brought warm days and cool nights without extreme weather events. These conditions allowed the vines to establish a large, but balanced crop, which steadily ripened until our Cabernet harvest began in early October. Mother Nature held back on her fall rains, enabling us to bring in each block at optimal ripeness before the end of the month. The 2012 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of mixed berry fruit, boysenberry, chocolate covered cherries, layered with hints of graphite and toasted oak. On the palate, a smooth entry is followed by intense, ripe berry notes. This wine is focused and silky through the midpalate, building to a finish with broad tannins and notes of cedar and toasted oak.
There's a slight spritz to this at first, which blows off to reveal a relatively big version, superexpressive and balanced, showing exotic notes of shaved ginger and coriander, followed by a mix of candied pear, baked apple and dough flavors. This reaches a peak toward the end, when the acidity pierces through, bringing back the energy, while sea salt accents marks the finish
Domaine du Colombier Chablis Petit Chablis comes from Chardonnay grapes grown in the AOC Chablis vineyards, with south-south east exposure; the wine during vinification sees only steel. This is a bright, crisp wine with a pretty lemon, limestone and slightly floral nose. The palate is citrusy, mostly lemon backed up with some peach, green apple and more minerality. Good developing finish in a nice Chablis.
White Wine Armand Heitz 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Perrieres
During history, the village of Meursault has never wanted to claim one or more grands crus. It's a pity because the agronomic potential of its 1er crus has nothing to envy to the prestige of the grands crus of the hill of Montrachet or Corton. If Meursault were to have a grand cru, it would undoubtedly be Les Perrières. It is a powerful, intense wine, a rich and imposing terroir. Located mid-slope like all the best wines in Burgundy, it benefits from the best agronomic conditions.
White Burgundy Famille Roux Pere & Fils 2018 Meursault 1er Cru
This elegant Chassagne-Montrachet has layered aromas of lemon curd, acacia and honeysuckle, with verbena, hazelnut and toast. It has a profound flinty minerality, with a persistent finish. Rich yet perfectly balanced, an excellent example of this unique and special terroir.
Pernand-Vergelesses isn't as widely known an appellation, but deserves to be based on how good these wines are. The vineyard 'Sous Fretille' is a stone's throw from some of the most sought after vineyards in all of France, the Corton-Charlemegne, and this wine is an absolute firecracker. This 2018 shows poise and verve with a remarkable and complex array of character and acidity to balance. A true diamond in the rough that deserves a place in your collection.
This alluring white flirts with both elegance and richness, delivering blanched almond and tarragon notes that frame the core of cooked quince, ginger powder and persimmon flavors. The distinctive texture is silky, with a nice crunch, combining a caressing mouthfeel with a zesty quality, while the mineral component emerges on the long, spice-infused finish. The tension is still there, so give this a few years to unravel.
