Beringer, one of the Napa Valley’s most historic wineries, needs little introduction. Founded in 1876 by Jacob Beringer, has achieved many firsts in the region: it was one of the first gravity-fed winemaking facilities, one of the first to carve out caves for cellars by hand, and one of the first to offer public tours in 1934, igniting the spark that led Napa to become one of the world’s premier wine tourism destinations. Beringer is also the first—and only!—winery to have both red and white wines selected as Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine of the Year. Jacob Beringer’s descendants are still involved in the winery operations, and Beringer’s Quantum red blend is produced by Mark Beringer, the founder’s great-grandson.

The Napa blend is based on the scientific concept that a quantum is the smallest possible unit of energy. These units combine to create the whole, and in great winemaking, that whole is often better than the sum of its individual parts. Each decision made by the winemaking team, from the varietal makeup to the different vineyard sites and blocks, adds its own unique energy to the wine. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Malbec, the 2016 Quantum comes from seven top Napa sites: The Bancroft, Steinhauer, Chabot, Vogt, Marston, Gamble, and Home Vineyards.

Bold, deep, and dark, with dense black berry notes Quantum deftly combines savory notes of herbs, oak, brown spice, and chocolate with rich, unctuous fresh and dried fruit notes. Its plush, velvet tannins make it approachable.
