Every year since the foundation of the House of Krug, a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is created to offer the most generous expression of Champagne.
This bottle belongs to the 170th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, a blend of 195 wines from 12 different years. The youngest is from the year 2014 and the oldest dates back to 1998. A stay of about seven years in our cellars gives this Edition its remarkable expression and elegance. Each glass poured from this bottle contains the fruit of more than 20 years of meticulous craftmanship.
The 170th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is composed around harvest of 2014. This year was marked by shifting weather conditions, oscillating between cool and hot periods with marked episodes of rain and drought. The wines grew in good conditions, which ensured a generous harvest. This contrasting climate preserved their freshness and thus, the teams were able to observe a great heterogeneity throughout the region, highlighting the importance of the House's plot-by-plot approach.
To create this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Cellar Master looked to accentuate the diversity of this year's delicate aromatic expressions with reserve wines from several plots and 11 different years. The careful attention paid to the vines and Krug’s exceptional respect for the characteristics of each plot, have contributed to the broad expression of this edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
In all, reserve wines from the House's extensive library made up 45% of the final blend, bringing the crucial breadth and roudness to each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
This edition of Krug is composed of 51% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay and 11% Meunier.
Krug Grande Cuvée is the product of one man, Joseph Krug, who dreamed of making the finest champagne every year, regardless of the weather. Each year, the House of Krug honours this dream with a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of champagne.
